The Auckland-based electro-pop producer LYL keeps an arsenal of sharp musical tricks up his sleeve. Whether it’s his ear for sticky hooks, memorable lyrics, minimalist soundscape, pitch perfect production, LYL puts a unique spin into avant-dark-pop. On his debut single “Be The One” (released in 22nd of June), in collaboration with fellow Kiwi artist Melgrim, each of those talents is given equal shine, in a form of endlessly replayable banger.
“Be The One” pays homage to legendary singers from Etta James, Ciara, Rihanna and many other artists between. It features the upcoming talented African-American singer Tyler Royale (who was featured in Lil Yachty’s Such Ease track).
It’s a pop song pop fans will love and even non-pop listeners will likely appreciate.
