In a recent interview with Industry Reviewz, country music artist Keegan Jacko opened up about his path into music and his development as an artist over the last few years. Recently, Keegan Jacko has become recognizable by his genuine and authentic brand of country music. It is no surprise that when he was asked about how he got into music, he gave an impressively genuine and original answer:
“If I’m being completely honest about this one. It used to be for all the wrong reasons. Public acceptance. I didn’t grow up in grade school as the cool kid. I remember always wanting to be like the football jocks that all the girls loved. But I was nothing like that. Anything I’ve ever done as young adult was to be accepted or admired for something. I grew an almost obsessive mindset on whatever it is I was doing to make that a reality.
I remember being twelve years old and crying over a dream I had. I was on stage singing and there was a huge crowd, mind you when I was twelve I didn’t know I would have a career in singing. Nobody knew I even liked too. But it made me break down when I woke up. I don’t know if it was because I “missed” that feeling or because I didn’t have it. But that’s been in my head my whole life since then. When I turned twenty one I decided I was gonna do anything and everything I could to make that happen. And this version of myself was born.
I fell in love with the process along the way. And now music is the only place that I feel calm. When I’m on stage nothing else in my life matters. No stress, no anger. It’s just me and the crowd. And for that period of time, I feel bliss. Music is my way to express myself and now I don’t do it for the acceptance. I do it because I love it. I wouldn’t be me without the music.”
For Keegan, this long standing passion for making music has influenced him at every turn. With every new piece of music, Keegan Jacko brings his own distinct style, sound, and feel to the song. His work is infused with the passion of someone who doesn’t just want to be a musician, but needs to be one. Even more so, he isn’t afraid to open up to listeners and wants them to share in what he is feeling. The result is a genuine sound that draws listeners into the track.
