While many artists consider themselves “old souls,” the Brazilian/American, NYC based singer/songwriter, Wilder Daze, believes there’s a deeper reason that the moody, nostalgic pop that defines his rich artistry draws from a wide stylistic expanse ranging from the 60’s to the 80’s. “I believe our souls go through multiple lives, and I have a theory that the last life I lived before this one was from the 50’s through into the 90’s,” says Wilder, who was born in the early 90’s.
On “Hourglass,” one of the 12 soulful, thought provoking tracks on his deeply autobiographical debut album Golden Hour, Wilder illuminates this further, sharing some of the past experiences that have made him who he is: “I’ve lived a lot of lives/I’ve had a lot of homes/I’ve been a lot of people/Worn many different clothes.” Wilder produced the album in collaboration with Michael Graye and penned every track, with the exception of the title tune and “Summer of Love,” which are co-writes with Aimee Proal (Kelly Clarkson, Joe Crocker).
Wilder offered powerful introductory snapshots of the dynamic narrative that unfolds throughout Golden Hour with the release of three singles in 2016. Released in January 2016, “Blush” is an unabashedly romantic tune Wilder wrote while walking around Paris on his 23rd birthday and calls “modern synth pop through retro speakers.” The Get Out! Awards invited him to do a live premiere of the song at their event at Boxer’s and featured him on the cover of their magazine. Wilder has also headlined other prominent NYC venues, including The Bitter End, Pianos, the Delancey and more.
Golden Hour was released on September 22nd 2017, and was followed by a string of successful release shows in Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. Since the release of his debut album, Wilder has been working on his follow-up project with long-time guitarist and collaborator Thad Debrock. He’s just released his new single “Luvline”, which was mixed by Mario McNulty. “Luvline” is a sultry r&b/pop track that Wilder hopes will “spark a conversation about our connections with each other in this day and age.” Wilder is currently hard at work completing his sophomore album, True Nature, which is to be released at the end of the year.
