IR: Let’s get to know a little bit more about you and how you grew up. So where do you consider hometown and what type of kid were you growing up?
TAY: So even though I live in Miami now, Im born and raised in Chicago.. so of course i consider that my hometown. As far as the type of kid i was growing… Id say smart and smart-mouthed… my parents would often say ‘too smart for my own good.
IR: How old were you when you developed an interest in music?
TAY: Um… thats a tough one… I’ve been into music for as long as i can remember, i started to TAYke it serious at some point in high school.. me and a couple friends of mine would do impromptu performances in front of the gym every morning.. so id say then is when it got serious.
IR: What was the first album you ever listened to? Can you remember back that far?
TAY: You know rappers always resort to saying some classic hiphop album, was the 1st one that got them into the music or whatever, me on the other hand.. i thought i was a sex symbol when i was coming up, even though i didnt even know what one was..lol.. so the 1st full album i can remember rocking to was Ginuwine’s ‘..the bachelor’ , it was such a game changer as far as RnB goes, fusing hiphop and RnB.
IR: When and how did you begin your journey in the world of music?
TAY: Going back to that time in high school..thats when we (at the time) decided to get serious with it and try to make a career out of it.
IR: What influences shaped your musical style?
TAY: The thing that has influenced me and my style the most, is the world and environment around me… i love TAYking experiences both personal and non-personal and building a story around those experiences, so that and the fact that early in my life i lived in the inner city, then moved to the suburbs in my teens.. so just experiencing that diversity has help to influence my own diversity.
IR: How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard it before?
TAY: The best way to describe me and my sound would be “reflective and transparent” meaning its gonna serve as a mirror from my perspective, or a window from yours…sonically it may be all over the place, usually dependent on my mood at the moment of a songs conception.
IR: Do you write a lot by yourself or do you have a partner or a group of people you work with?
TAY: I write by myself… most times i don’t even like having others involved in my creative process.. but with that being said, if its a collab of sorts with a producer or other artist, I’m receptive to GOOD suggestions.
IR: What is your main goal at this point?
TAY: My main goal is to gain more notoriety, but in a positive manner..getting the name and brand out there on a more prominent bases.
IR: Have you learned any lessons so far and if so, what are they?
TAY: This one is gonna sound cliche, but the biggest lesson I’ve personally learned is to stick to your guns as an artist, fight to be who YOU are, regardless of what any label figure, promoter or Dj has to say about it, but also make sure your coachable, i know… almost sounds contradictory, lol”
IR: Are there any artists you wish to work with in the future?
TAY: Kanye is who i want to work with most, mainly because i just want to pick his brain..and then make some dope ass music together.
IR: If you could create your dream tour, who would be a part of it?
TAY: The tour list would be long as hell, lol and it would TAYke 8hrs to get thru all the acts.
IR: Where can we find your music?

IR: We ask all the artists we interview, what’s the best piece of advice someone’s ever given to you?
TAY: The best advice someone has given me is to make sure me and my daughter are TAYken care of, we are the only ones that matter in the grand scheme of things.
